How To Peticure

Peticure is more than a product, it is a bridge that heals an old wound and redefines the way we care for our pets.

  • First, find a comfortable area to peticure your dog. Carpeted floor, couches and beds are comfortable areas.

  • Next, take your charged peticure filer and select the appropriate size opening for the nail.

  • This is done by depressing the two buttons on the side of your guard. Choose the correct size and lock the guard in place by letting go of the buttons.

  • Now take your pets paw and with your thumb and forefinger, retract the nail. This supports the nail that is being filed and should always be done.

  • Begin filing the nail. File a nail no more than 3 to 5 seconds at a time. This will insure that no unnecessary friction comes into play. Look at the nail after every 3-5 second intervals to see how much you have filed and always alternate nails.

  • Using a rounding motion gives the nail a round finish. However it's ok to file straight too.

  • Filing the upper part of the nail instead on only the bottom portion is key to giving a good peticure. The top portion of the nail is where most of the overall overgrowth is. It is also where the sharp area tends to develop. If your dog is active and files his nails on the ground, there is usually a very sharp angle that will develop in this area. Filing this area gives the nail the round and blunt feel we want.

  • The most common question asked about peticures is, "How do I know when to stop". The simple answer to this question is this. "Filing" as a method of nail removal is very incremental. When removing paper thin layers, the danger of taking off too much at one time is impossible. If it is your first time using peticure, you may be conservative and only round off the sharp edges and obvious overgrowth. As you become comfortable, you might try to get closer to the quick. When you look at the nail frontally as you are filing, you can see the quick emerge through the layers of enamel. This will give you a good idea when to stop.

  • There is a soft layer between the hard outer shell and the quick. As you get close to the quick you can feel the leather like texture as opposed to the hard outer shell. Stop Here.

  • Make sure you focus your attention on the correct angle.

    Peticure Safety Tips

  • Make sure the peticure safe guard is ON and SECURELY locked in place before using. Use of the peticure without its protective guard can cause injury or damage to skin or unprotected surfaces. An unlocked guard can become dislodged during use.

  • Keep peticure away from loose clothing, jewelry and long hair. Loose clothing, jewelry and long hair can be caught in moving parts. Make sure sleeves are buttoned or rolled up, and the long hair is securely fastened.

  • Do not use peticure in or near water. Water entering peticure can cause electric shock.

  • Wear protective glasses when using peticure. Particles and debris from your pets nails can project into the air during use.

  • Keep peticure away from children. Guard openings may be large enough for insertion of small fingers or other body parts.

  • Peticure is made for external use only.

  • Do not use on human nails. Peticure is designed exclusively for grooming the nails of dogs and cats. Use on human nails can cause breakage, splitting, burns, abrasions or other personal injury.

  • Maintain contact with the nail surface for no more than 3-5 seconds. Peticure works using friction, which produces intense heat. To avoid burns or other serious injury to your pet, maintain nail contact for no more than 3-5 seconds and alternate nails. Always look at the nail after each 3-5 filing interval. If you make contact with the quick or see any blood, STOP.
